A program focused on promoting literacy, Student Athletes Think Reading is Fun (STARS), received a Character Education Partnership Award. Dorman High School Athletic Director Flynn Harrell was named Region II AAAA Athletic Director of the Year. Dorman High School graduate Jasmine Rogers was recognized as the Upstate Region Technology Student of the year for Pauline Glenn Springs won the DHEC- All Health Team Gold Winner 1st place for the state.Ħ Highlights WYFF Golden Apple Award Winners The South Carolina Association of Physical Education and Sport awarded Roebuck Elementary School s Marty Owens with the Founders Award for Teaching Excellence. Arcadia teacher Lisa Littleton, was chosen as Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. Debbie Philbeck, former Anderson Mill Elementary School Principal was named SCIRA Spartanburg County Administrator of the Year. Woodland Heights was the Red Carpet Award recipient for its family friendly environment. Anderson Director Sherri Yarborough was named Administrator of the Year," by the SC Career Guidance & Placement Association. Three of our schools, Dorman High, Gable Middle and Arcadia Elementary were Palmetto Silver winners for closing the achievement gap. According to the South Carolina Department of Education, a Red Carpet School does an outstanding job of creating a family-friendly school environment and providing excellent customer service. In 2009, Woodland Heights was named a Red Carpet School. ![]() This distinction is based on the school s excellent instruction, student performance, outstanding leadership, and strong family and community involvement. "My family and I are beyond excited to join the Spartanburg School District 1 family. Smith said he is excited about the next step in his educational career. Smith also taught social studies at Fairforest Middle School. He previously served as the principal of Dorman Freshman Campus and the assistant principal for Dorman High School and the assistant principal for the Dorman Freshman Campus. He then received his Master of Education from Converse College, and Education Specialist and Doctoral degrees from South Carolina State University. Smith received his Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies and Education from Erskine College. ![]()
